Nouns are names of persons, places or things. There are three basic categories of nouns but the category of things can be expanded greatly.

Common nouns are general named for people, places or thing.
proper nouns are specific name of persons, places or thing They being with capital letters.

Forming Plural of Nouns
- Most nouns form the plural by adding s to the singular:
Picture- picture
2. Nouns ending in y preceded by a consonant form the plural by changing y to i and adding es; lily- lilies
1. Nouns ending in s, x, z, ch and sh form the plural by adding es:
box- boxes; church- churches
2. Nouns ending in o preceded by a consonant generally form the plural by adding es to the singular:
tomato- tomatoes; potato potatoes
3. The following nouns form the plural by changing f or fe to ves:
calf- calves life- lives
Knife- knives wharf- wharves
loaf- loaves thief- thieves
4. Some noun have the same form in the singular and plural;
series deer sheep
5. A few nouns form the plural by changing the word;
tooth – teeth; mouse- mice; ox- oxen
6. Compound noun form the plural by adding s to the important word: father- in- law- fathers- in- law
7. Common nouns ending in ful form the plural by adding s to the ful:
cupful- cupfuls
8. The plural of numbers and letters is formed by adding s to the singular: 6- 6’s’, t- t’s
9. When a name is preceded by a title, the title may be pluralized or the name may be pluralized:
Miss Moreno- Misses Moreno- miss Morenos

1. The following nouns have on plural form except under special conditions.
– advice

2. The following nouns are always plural and plural verbs.
– goods
– headquarters
– scissors
3. The following nouns are plural in form but take singular verbs
– news
– mathematics
– civics
4. The following nouns change their meaning in the plural.
– advice (counsel)- I listen to my doctor’s advice.
advices(news)- They received the latest advices form the magazines.
– Cloth(material)- The cloth is cloth is colorful.
Clothes(garments)- I have lovely clothes.
– Glass(container)- Fill the glass with water.
Glasses(spectacles)- Lito needs new glasses.
